DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND MANAGEMENT

The Department is headed by a Director and has Four Divisions with its functions to include:

Health and Safety Division

• Noise Pollution Control
• Morgue Operational Services
• Educational Awareness & Consultancy
• Skid Gas Plant Machinist
• Advocacy on Environmental Compliance & Sustainability
• Disinfection & Disinfestations of Government Buildings/Parastatals
• Coordinate Environmental Health & Safety activities/programmes in workplaces

Surveillance, Enforcement and Services

• Management & Coordination of Environmental Marshals
• Effluent Discharge & Treatment
• Inspection & Investigation
• Housing Standard/Quality, Inspection and Control
• Surveillance on Diseases/outbreak Notification
• Management of illegal use of road setbacks and other Government Prohibited Areas
• Prevention and Control of Nuisances in the Environment.

Sanitation and Hygiene Division

• Public & Mobile Toilet Management
• Cleaning Services
• Maintenance of Urban Sanitation
• Public Pest & Vector Control Management
• Sewage Disposal & System Management
• Coordinating Sanitation and Hygiene of Regulated Premises, parks & Garden, recreational and Workplaces.
• Coordinating Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise
• Sanitation Services supervision in synergy with Local Government WES department on Abattoir, Schools and Markets.
• Environmental Development & Monitoring within regulated premises
• Maintenance of Sanitation at Camps, settlements,
• Industrial Hygiene and Sanitation Services (EHIA)

Management Division

• Commemoration of days (NESD, WPD, WTD, WEHD)
• Routine reports, dissemination and feedback activities
• Coordinate Environmental Health Management Information System
• Training of Environmental Health Practitioners and Personnel
• Coordinating Intervention Programmes on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH).
• Liaising with Federal Ministry of Environment on Environmental Health Approach/Desk Officer
• Special and Emergency Management/Assignments
