Ogun restates commitment to environmental safety

The Ogun State Government, in a statement on Sunday, reiterated its commitment to ensuring a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment through effective and sustainable environmental management policies.

Speaking at the 2025 Management Retreat of the Ministry of Environment and its sister agencies — the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency and the Ogun State Waste Management Authority — held in Abeokuta, Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele emphasised the importance of strategic planning in environmental governance.

According to the statement, “The retreat presents a strategic opportunity for deep reflection, planning, and realignment of the state’s environmental policies and governance framework to enhance efficiency in environmental service delivery across Ogun State.”

Salako-Oyedele urged the ministry and its sister agencies to strengthen inter-agency collaboration for more effective policy implementation. She stressed the need to align the state’s environmental policies with national and global sustainability goals, adding that the government recognises the critical role of a clean and well-managed environment in driving economic growth, protecting public

Earlier, the Commissioner for Environment, Dr Ola Oresanya, highlighted the need for continuous staff training to enhance capacity at the management level.

A major highlight of the two-day retreat was the presentation of awards of excellence to outstanding management staff.

Mrs. Taiwo Adebiyi was recognised as the Best Management Staff in the Ministry of Environment, while Mrs. Yemisi Oshinaike received an award for her performance at OGEPA. Mr Olajide Ayilara was honoured for his contributions at OGWAMA, and Mr Tunji Egbemuyiwa was named the 2025 Ogun State Environmental Ambassador.
