The department is headed by a Director and its responsibilities are:
- State-wide monitoring of daily street sweeping exercise.
- Daily monitoring of vegetation control in urban centres within the State.
- Watershed management.
- Landscaping and beautification of roundabouts and road medians.
- Nature and biodiversity conservation.
- Monitoring of mineral resources sites to enforce appropriate reclamation.
- Monitoring of car wash centres and fuel stations across the State.
- Attending to public complaints on environmental related issues.
- Buy Back Policy.
