As part of activities commemorating the World Environment Day 2025 celebration in Ogun State, a road show was successfully organized to raise public awareness on environmental sustainability and promote responsible waste management practices. The event was held in line with the 2025 World Environment Day theme, “Ending Plastic Pollution Globally,” which underscores the urgent need for collective action to address the growing challenge of plastic pollution.

The road show served as a platform to sensitize residents on the importance of environmental stewardship, proper waste management, climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and the need for collective efforts towards achieving a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment. The procession featured government officials, environmental stakeholders, students, community-based organizations, and members of the public, who marched through major roads displaying banners, placards, and educational messages advocating environmental protection and the reduction of plastic waste.

A key highlight of the celebration was the Plastic Waste Buy-Back Initiative, which encouraged residents to collect and return used plastic materials in exchange for incentives. The initiative was designed to promote recycling, discourage indiscriminate disposal of plastic waste, and support a circular economy approach to waste management within the State.

The programme attracted considerable public participation and generated widespread awareness of the environmental and health implications of plastic pollution. It also demonstrated the Ogun State Government's commitment to environmental sustainability, cleaner communities, and active citizen engagement in protecting the environment for present and future generations.
